Former Penrith & The Border MP, the Right Honourable Rory Stewart OBE has endorsed Conservative Parliamentary candidate for the reconfigured Carlisle seat, John Stevenson.
The two men worked side by side in neighbouring constituencies between 2010 and 2019 working jointly on many issues including the serious floods of 2015.
In addition to being an MP, Rory served as a minister in four departments and as Secretary of State for International Development in 2019. He is well known now for amongst other things, hosting the popular podcast ‘The Rest is Politics’.
Commenting Rory said, “I am delighted to give a personal endorsement to John Stevenson. As a neighbouring MP and friend I worked closely with John. He was an outstanding committed constituency MP doing a great job for Carlisle helping it secure a significant amount of investment for the area. I would encourage everyone in Carlisle constituency to back John.”
In response John said, “I am very pleased that Rory has chosen to endorse me. I am looking forward to continuing to be a strong voice for Carlisle and all the border area. I want to make sure that every part of this new constituency receives it’s fair share of attention and investment.”
