John Stevenson, MP for Carlisle, recently met with a constituent to discuss concerns regarding a flooding issue on St. Ninians Road, Carlisle.
St. Ninians Road by the railway bridge floods regularly due to a culvert which Network Rail and Cumberland Council have responsibility for has not been maintained.
Concerns have also been raised over the safety and wellbeing of pupils at St John Henry Newman Catholic School, who are having to wade through floodwater to gain access to school, and the impact this may have on school attendance.
John has written to Network Rail and Cumberland Council to ask them to look into the issue as a matter of urgency.
Commenting John said, “I would hope that this issue is resolved as soon as possible and an ongoing maintenance programme is put in place for this area. It is not right that residents and school children are having to wade through floodwater on too regular a basis. I thank my constituent for raising this important issue with me.”
